How to get into and getting around Desaru – Discover the wonders of Desaru

What is the weather like in Desaru?

These 22 kilometres of beach that lies on the eastern coast of Malaysia is prone to highly seasonal monsoon winds and heavy rains all through the months of November and February. While there is still plenty of moments of sunshine the weather makes the ocean quite untenable. This means that the best is yet to come with the months of April to October bringing a more favourable climate to the region. Additionally, the months of June and August are typically when the visitors arrive, making them some of the busiest months of the year.

Getting to Desaru

Given that the town does not have its airport, travelling by plane to this beautiful location is simply not an option. While this is slightly inconvenient, several other options can be explored to make your journey a successful one.

Many people who hope to visit Desaru, opt to travel by bus. While this may not take you directly into town, it will bring you close enough to your destination so that you can hire a cab thereafter. The Johor Bahru Larkin Bus Terminal is the main point of departure for all buses heading towards Desaru and the ride will likely cost you about RM 8.

If you can take a car into Desaru town, you can come in from the Senai- Desaru Expressway and the journey will roughly take about 30 minutes.

Alternatively, you can opt for the Limbongan Maju, which is a boat service that runs throughout the week between Singapore and Johor. If you were hoping to take your vehicle across with the ferry, you are a little out of luck as this service is no longer available. In case you are travelling for a quick day trip, the return charges will be about S$38!

Given the relative complexity of the options and timing available for your journey to the town of Desaru. Things to do in Desaru

Give that the region is still up and coming you expect a rustic and authentic experience in Desaru. This means there are not going to be a lot of perfectly sanitized restaurants and cafés but, you can use this opportunity to enjoy the untainted natural wonders that surround you.

Many people who visit Desaru find themselves slowly learning how to surf. This is generally because weather permitting, there will be ideal conditions for surfing. Not to mention the lack of sharks and jellyfish in the area makes it a much easier decision for many people to opt for.

There is also quite a unique experience that can be had in Desaru which is the search for fireflies. This generally takes places along the Sungei Lebam river and is a popular choice for many visitors. This will however require some form of assistance from someone who knows the lay of the land and many people simply join in on pre-planned excursions held by hotels in the area.
