How to get around Oman

Boasting an eclectic culture, a hospitable population and oodles attractions, Oman has become a destination that is well received and loved by tourists. Although it has become a popular tourist destination, travelling around the country and visiting its attraction could be a bit of a hassle if you are new to the country. if you plan of visiting here any time soon here is a guide to find easy means of getting around in Oman.

Travelling by Car

With its extensive array of highways and convenient road networks, Driving yourself around is the most convenient way of travelling in Oman. The asphalt roads reach most regions of the country and it is pretty straight forward too. But, like other transportation methods, it has a few drawbacks too. if you have set your mind to renting a car here and visiting its many destinations all by yourself, there are few things you will have to be mindful of. The resident population could be a bit reckless when it comes to driving so drive cautiously at all times. Vehicles here drive on the right and the typical speed limits on highways and dual carriageways are 120 km/h and 100 km/h on single carriageways. Most of the rental cars here will have a speed limit alarm which will alert you if you exceed the mark of 120 km/h.

The long desert road a filled with hazards and you will have to keep your eyes peeled on the road at all times. At times you might see cattle and even camels crossing the roads without prior warning and there is a tendency of flash floods during the rainy season. Driving rules in Oman are strict and must be adhered to at all times. Offences such as jumping a red light could lead you to serious amounts of fine and even a jail term of two days in certain circumstances. The authorities can even fine you if you don't keep your vehicle clean. So before getting behind the wheels make sure you are aware of the county's road rules.

Travellers can get a car through many of its car rental shops and at all rentals stores, having a valid international driver's licence is mandatory in order to get a car. These stores are quite common in Oman and you could find these places around popular sites such as hotel Sur in Oman. Tourists could also get in touch with car rental by reaching out to the front desks of properties the likes of Sur Plaza Hotel if they had planned their stay at such resorts. Another bonus of renting out a car here is, petrol is extremely cheap in Oman by international standards.

Bus

All of Oman's major cities are connected by buses and they predominantly run by the government. You could also find a few private bus services as well. Bus rates are reasonably priced and can offer you comfortable rides between your desired locations. They also run in tight schedules so make sure you get the timings right.

Taxi

Taxis operate within the large towns and they can be easily recognized by their distinctive paint jobs. The important thing to remember when you get a taxi is, almost all of the taxis here are unmetered meaning which you will have to come to a common term on the fare before you get in. Usually, the fare won't exceed the amount of 2 OR for short trips and I could go up to 5 OR for longer trips.

Ferries

Though its reach is very limited ferries are also being used in Oman as one of the main modes of Transport. The main advantage of this transportation method is you can reach your destination much faster compared to other methods that being said, this method is only effective if you plan of travelling between Musandam Khasab and Muscat.
